Frequently questions

How long does an oxygen cylinder last?

This often asked question is not so easy to answer. This is due to the fact, that in major depth more air is used. Also everyone breathes differently and different bottle are existing. As reference note following: In our lakes, within the depth range to 10m, diving times well more than one hour are no problem.

Is the diving gear very heavy?

That is first of all relative and depends secondly on the diving area. In warmer areas are not such thick diving suits used. Because of this, there is not so much weight needed. In case of a normal diving gear for sports diving, lead weight and oxygen cylinder are approx. 20kg. The remaining gear makes than again about 3 – 5 kg. Dealing with this weight is no problem, because in the water it is „gone“! The weight of the equipment is often the only factor, that justifies the term “sport diving”. The only sports you have to do during diving, is the dragging of the equipment from the parking lot to the waterside! The rest is easy!

How old must / may I be?

The age limit is downward at 12 years, recently even lower. However, we give the recommendation to wait until the age of 14 years. First of all the equipment is sometimes a substantial load for the spinal column, which is not developed yet and secondly a certain ripe safety consciousness is needed. For sure, some at the age of 12 bring along such physical and mental conditions. In such case, nothing is to be objected against a diving course, especially because up to the age of 15, everyone has to dive in company of an adult. An age limitation upwards does not exist, here only the health is decisive factor.

I am agravic in the water?

No, the correct word for the abeyance when diving is weightlessness. Spacemen have the feeling of zero-gravity, with the resulting problems such as dizziness or disorientation. This is not the case when diving. It would be bad, if one would not know anymore, where is above and down. But believe me, the feeling of the weightless sailing along (neutral buoyancy) has also its attraction!

Is diving dangerous?

Yes, diving holds dangers. In a fairly diving course you learn how easy it is to exclude potential danger. Who crosses the street at the red light a car can be run over by a car, who flouts the rules for diving gets also in problems. To avoid these problems is nearly as difficult as to stop at the red light! Who sticks to the rules will experience diving as a fascinating and save sport. Furthermore a well waited diving equipment with all its safety devices is very reliable!

Does my diving license expire at any time?

No, that is not the case. But it is recommended, to take a refresh course if one was not diving for a longer time. This brings back missing knowledge and abilities fast. This is comparable with the driving license, which does also not expire. If one did not drive a car for long time, an experienced company should be at side on the first routes for safety reasons.
